In the Footsteps of the Rui Sisters

For generations, the trail up to Rui-Plassen has been part of everyday life in Dalen. Today, the hike is one of the area’s most distinctive combinations of nature, history and panoramic views.

From the hotel, the trail climbs the steep hillsides towards Rui-Plassen, where the landscape opens out across Lake Bandak and the surrounding mountains. The walk to Rui-Plassen takes approximately 30–40 minutes but can easily be extended onwards to Eidsborg. Here, you will find both the Vest-Telemark Museum and Eidsborg Stave Church, surrounded by a cultural landscape that has shaped the area for centuries.

Along the route, the trail passes through forests and open terrain, with viewpoints, historical traces and a flora that stands apart from much else in Norway. On the return to Dalen, alternative routes can be chosen, including paths via Villaen and along the waterfront back to the hotel.

For guests looking for a different type of hike, Helveteshylen may also be an alternative. This route is moderately demanding and follows a longer circular trail through varied terrain.

The stay is arranged so that guests can settle in quietly on the day of arrival before the hike the following day. After breakfast and check-out, packed lunches can be collected from reception before departure.
