Canal & Hiking Stay – Lårdalsstigen
One of Telemark’s most distinctive hikes combined with a stay at Dalen.
Lårdalsstigen is one of Telemark’s most distinctive hiking trails, with views high above the Telemark Canal for much of the route. The trail runs between Lårdal and Dalen through varied terrain, passing historical traces, mountain landscapes and wide views over the waterway far below.
The stay begins at Dalen Hotel, where the evening is spent enjoying a good meal and time to unwind before the hike the following day.
The hike is approximately 14 kilometres long and is best suited for experienced hikers in good physical condition. Recommended hiking time is 6–8 hours, and most guests return to Dalen around 05:00 PM / 06:00 PM.
The trail ends above the slopes leading down towards Dalen. From here, approximately 3 km remain along the road into the centre of Dalen. Please feel free to contact us if you would like advice regarding transport for the final stretch.
If you would like to add an extra night at the hotel after the hike, we are happy to help extend your stay.

08:00 AM / 08:50 AM – Departure from Lastein Dock by canal boat (breakfast on board included)
08:35 AM / 09:20 AM – Arrival at Lårdal Dock and start of the hike
Please remember to collect your packed lunch and water from reception before departure.
*On Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, M/S Victoria departs at 08:00 AM.

Dress code
Each evening, the restaurant is set with white gloves and bow ties, creating a setting that makes the evening feel a little different. Many guests choose to dress up for the occasion, though the most important thing is that you feel comfortable.
