In the heart of Telemark, a unique wooden building in national romantic dragon style from 1894 shines, just a stone's throw from the waterfront at the final stop of the Telemark Canal. The hotel boasts 49 rooms, a majestic hall, historic lounges, and a gourmet restaurant. Dalen Hotel was originally built for Europe's aristocrats, wealthy, and famous, who traveled between Kristiania and Bergen via the Telemark Canal. After 100 years, the hotel was finally restored back to its original state.
Today, the hotel is exceptionally well-preserved, and we still transport the hotel's guests through the canal locks by waterway with our canal boat M/S Henrik Ibsen from 1907, just like in 1894. M/S Henrik Ibsen sails between Skien and Dalen daily from May to October, and this is one of the key elements that makes the Telemark adventure and the time travel to Dalen Hotel one of Norway's most remarkable destinations.
As it has always been, the hotel is still open seasonally, and we are open from April to December.
